DISC Personality Profile

Jon had a class that used the DISC personality profile and he encouraged us all to take the test and see what it revealed. Wiki says: "DISC is the four quadrant behavioral model based on the work of William Moulton Marston Ph.D. (1893 - 1947) to examine the behavior of individuals in their environment or within a specific situation. DISC looks at behavioral styles and behavioral preferences.."

It reminds me a bit of the Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator. I have always been interested in psychiatry, psychology and what is often called "pop psychology." So, of course I had to take the test.

For the record it says I am trying to be a Perfectionist (apparently I'm not there yet!). It says the real me is Counselor and the real world blend is Practitioner. What does it all mean?

Well, apparently the way it all comes together, graphed, etc. says Dominance is my lowest trait (some might argue this one), then gradually increasing in Influence (social), Stability/Security (I'll admit I'm no risk-taker) to Conscientious (analytical, detail-oriented). The graphs indicated I have been trying for a long time to be someone I am not, meaning I have worked much harder than I would have needed to if I had been more accepting of who I am and developed that instead of developing my weaker points into my main attributes. Hmmmmm

The real-world blend of Practitioner is the person who strives to be expert at one thing, but is often seen as expert at everything. I have often said my kids might as well call me Dex, because Dex knows.... (They love to call me for phone numbers, medical information, hours of operation, how and what to cook when the cupboard is bare, location and referrals for just about everything)

Now I guess I need someone to explain this all to me and tell me who I really am since I never quite figured that out. Mostly I think I was waiting for the chance to be my own person as opposed to somebody's daughter (the stable "survivor" but different), somebody's wife (the hard one to live with), somebody's mother (the slave-driver) and somebody's grandmother (the fan - really!).

I wonder what I will be when I grow up.

  1. Guess it's time for me to actually do that personality test thingy! I'm so glad you've been blogging. I like learning more about you (and your life as a nurse, too).
