Technology!

OK, every "tech" item I touch seems to be going junk. A few weeks ago my PC crashed and we decided it was a problem with the operating system. My friend loaned me her laptop since I love computers, even if they don't love me! Last week my PC at work kept crashing. Right out of the blue I kept getting the blue screen (even I know that's not good) and it would just freeze. Sometimes I could restart it and sometimes not.... so IT came and took it from Thursday through Monday, brought it back Monday afternoon and he assured me he had wiped it clean, reinstalled Windows and it was ready to go. He had left it on all weekend and it never shut down (of course it only shut down when I was USING it). Other than losing all my bookmarks it looked like it would be fine so I reinstalled Mozilla, started restoring my files and doing my work. Within the next two hours it shut down suddenly three times. No blue screen - just error messages that there was a problem with Corel or something else that "needed to close" then it was gone. Restarted a couple of times, same thing. Why doesn't it like me? The third problem is my PDA. It has never worked properly and nobody in IT seems to be able to figure that one out either. Am I cursed? Do the machines not like me? Do they know I'm technologically challenged and therefore an easy target? So, last night my personal techie friend came over and was able to capture all my files from the hard drive and moved them onto hers. Then we tried to recover the PC and realized it wasn't just the OS - we had to declare it dead. So, since I can't keep my friend's laptop forever, it looks like I'm going to need to buy another PC. Is there one that even I couldn't mess up? (Jon would say "buy a Mac" and Chris would say, "use Linux" - but how could I be trusted with learning something new?) Of course, then there's the DVD player and the TV remote - we won't even go there!

I'm hoping that when I get to work today the rest over night will have magically fixed the problem. My love-hate relationship with the computer keeps me coming back for more....

Who I am...

I'm "Dr. Mom," "Dex," "Merry Maid" (or Jetson's "Rosie"), "Betty Crocker," "Nurse Nancy," "Mom's B&B," "Miller Moving & Storage," "Dear Abby," "Got Junk?" "Google Maps," "Wiki-mom," "Memory Keeper" or "The Nanny" depending on who needs me at the moment. I'm a Mormon mom and grandma (traditional but sometimes unconventional). I like the new term for us boomer grandmas (glam-mother) because we have spent our whole lives redefining rules and stereotypes. WYSIWYG! I must have chocolate every day and I can say the alphabet backwards (fast!) - so can all my kids - our claim to fame!

We don't spend our twenties trying to "find" ourselves....we know who we are. This gives us a jump-start on life!

Dulcet - adj. A sound or voice so gorgeous you just have to listen to it again and again no matter what. So recognizable that even the faintest hint of it in the distance can send your mind reeling.
