Acrophobia is a generalized fear of all heights. However, I once heard someone say it can be confused with a fear of falling. If you are OK with heights in a safe place (behind a window or other protective enclosure) it's actually fear of falling. I think I'm somewhere in the middle...if I look down from a tall building (like the lookout at the Empire State Building) I will get sweaty palms, etc. I also have reactions in movies that portray such things even though I am in no imminent danger so I guess I have some degree of acrophobia. But I am often OK if not looking down so I'm not extreme here.I will mention the crazy person on YouTube who did the treacherous hike on impossible cliffs, while filming, made me nauseous and I couldn't even watch the whole thing.
So, FYI ~ here are the ten most common phobias. Please participate in my survey on the right sidebar because I'm curious how my "readers" compare. I realize I only entered the top ten and some have others like social phobia, etc. but after I posted and some voted I couldn't change the options. I would have included an "other" category if I had really thought it through.
1 - Acrophobia - Fear of Heights
2 - Claustrophobia - Fear of Enclosed Spaces
3 - Nyctophobia - Fear of the Dark
4 - Ophidiophobia - Fear of Snakes
5 - Arachnophobia - Fear of Spiders
6 - Trypanophobia - Fear of Injection or Medical Needles
7 - Astraphobia - Fear of Thunder and Lightning
8 - Nosophobia - Fear of Having a Disease
9 - Mysophobia AKA Germophobia - Fear of Germs
10-Triskaidekaphobia - Fear of the Number 13

I voted on your poll, but I could only choose one answer! I definitely needed to choose at least three. haha
