Habiscus

With illness and other crises taking over my life, my yard has had to be mostly perennial do-it-themselves. My trumpet vine has really taken off this year but no blooms :( Maybe it needs some fertilizer or something.
My habiscus really looks nice though. Glad I got these in when I did so the yard still looks pretty decent even without a lot of TLC.

I'm afraid I fried the little vegetable garden or something. The tomatoes and parsley are alive but the squash and cucumbers didn't make it. I think it had something to do with the special fertilizer/Preen combination. I thought I was doing it right but something killed it. Then, with everything else, I just had to let it go. Trying to say no to a few things...

Memorial Day

It used to be called Decoration Day and the idea is to show respect and appreciation for soldiers fallen in combat.  It now has evolved to remembering all those who died before us and/or having a barbecue with family.  This year it's a work day for  us - everyone is struggling to get the outside spring work done.  The late rains have delayed planting gardens, weeding flowerbeds and other outdoor tasks.  Josh and Asher "helped" me prepare the garden spot for the squash they planted from seed a few weeks ago.  I'll post pictures on the grandma blog.

I'm really feeling the anemia and lingering health issues and I don't like it!  My energy level is nowhere near normal.  Suddenly a condo sounds good.  Just kidding, I hate HOAs and I do need some yard and space.  In spite of the work, I like this place!

Garden-to-be

Sill working but the garden boxes are ready for planting now. I finished some little paver stones around the boxes, weeded and planted tomatoes so far. The strawberry plants are doing well.
