Dancing buds

Kathi was my sister's best friend in high school, one year below me and a friend to me too.  After we all went our separate ways and raised families we reconnected at the singles dances.  Now we are taking line dancing classes.  It is so fun, good exercise and great to rediscover friendship.  It's a small world and as we get older I think we find we have more; not less in common with each other.

I have found my wardrobe does not really do justice to the "honky-tonk" crowd (as one of my friends refers to the line dancing).

Love it!!!!

This really makes me want to get up and dance! If you haven't seen the music video you might want to watch that one first. Be sure you let it load completely before viewing or you will get choppy video.

Josh Turner's original music video is great but I LOVE this one - so spontaneous.

So here's the official one:

Fun for Friday the 13th

Good news: You don't see this every day. Questar is requesting a rate reduction. If it was April first I'd think it was a fool's joke. Of course it's only right, but it just doesn't happen very often. Read the DesNews article by clicking the post title.

If you're looking for Valentine's Day diversion, here's an idea:
Bear Lake's 3rd Annual FREE Chocolate Festival (Chocolate festival, homemade crafts, raffle, door prizes) is Feb. 13 to 15 (69 Paradise Parkway, Garden City)

Hours: Fri: 4-8 PM, Sat: 10-5, Sun: 10-2 (Info - call Judy at 435-946-2197 or visitors@bearlake.org) www.bearlake.org

Closer to home for most of us is the free Family Valentine's Dance in Layton tonight. Come listen, dance, hop, skip and twist to the music of the 60s and 70s. Popular local band, "Mid-life Crisis" provides live music. Also, door prizes, pictures and contests. Sponsored by Layton City Parks and Recreation 7 - 9 PM Central Junior High School Gym at 663 Church Street. I love living in Davis county! Flowers

They're growing!I had a good time this weekend and I danced until I dropped! I definitely need to do this more often. I attended two sessions of dance instruction and two dances for a total of 7 1/2 hours dancing. I was in much better shape last summer. I did learn a new easy line dance I had never done (Regae cowboy), got a little better at the cowboy waltz and we learned some new cha-cha moves too.

The rest of the conference was outstanding. I attended sessions on preparedness (of physical home and finances) which were good reminders. The theme of the conference was "Prepare Every Needful Thing." I enjoyed church meetings on Sunday as well as a fireside. Now it's back to work, ready or not and both my secretary and the other nurse are off for two days so I'm doing solo. The financial session reminded me of how I wish I were ready for retirement (early) - I'll probably have to work to age 70 and there's so much more I'd rather do....

Amazing Art

Jon shared this. If you want to hear this you may need to pause the automatic song in the right sidebar.

This is the story of Ma Li and Zhai Xiaowei as I heard it (I have not authenticated it):

She was a teenage dancer in China, having trained from early childhood, when she lost her left arm in a car accident. Depressed, she turned away from dancing for awhile. But when asked to coach a group of children, she realized her love of dance was still there.

She returned to dancing, finding at first that it was difficult to maintain balance in her turns and spins without her lost limb. But gradually she learned to compensate.

A number of years later, she heard of a young man in his 20's who had lost his leg. He, too, was going through the roller coaster emotions of denial, depression and anger that she had gone through. Although he had never danced before, she talked him into trying it. It was a challenge for both of them. They separated several times when the frustration became too great. He had no concept of how to use his muscles or even the most basic dance steps.

Eventually, they broke through their frustrations and went back to training, hiring a choreographer to design routines for them.

Officially Dating!

OK, here I am - officially checking out the LDS Singles dating scene. So far, so good. I had a great week with dances, dates and nice attention! Practicing dancing is making a difference. I have had some fun partners who have been great to show me the new moves! (Well, new for me anyway). I'm realizing there are some really great single people out there - I think I will attend the Utah County Multi-Stake Conference toward the end of the week. It actually goes all week but with gas prices as they are a little too far to drive more than a couple of days. So, today is a work day - mow the lawn, clean the house, etc. etc. etc.

Nice Weekend!

I got a couple of new CDs that I love - Brad Paisley's "Time Well Wasted" and an old Johnny Mathis (my favorite romantic crooner) "Most Requested Songs." I love the whole CD and you just want to dance slow dances with it. My favorite song on that one is "Small World" but I also really like "The Twelfth of Never." The favorite Paisley song is "She's Everything." Like I said, I'm a hopeless romantic!

Saturday after mowing the lawn and taking care of my house/yard I went to another dance. All total I probably danced for 5 hours between the two nights. It was good exercise - I'm afraid I was too sedentary this whole winter, so it's nice to really get moving again, doing something I enjoy. And, I haven't forgotten how to dance either (not that I was ever that good). So I guess I have officially joined the single scene. It's a bit scary, but we'll see where it goes.

Today was restful and quiet, as Sunday should be but isn't always. It's a busy week coming up. Hope it's good for us all!

My Day Off

Friday I went to Salt Lake for a Temple session, then I ate lunch at the Nauvoo Cafe. After that I went to the Church History Museum and the DUP museum. I shopped at EmilieJaynes and Yours, Mind and Ours, then went to the library to get a book to read. In the evening I went to a dance in Farmington and it was fun to actually do something - and to dance! Apparently they have these every month. I had forgotten how much I enjoy dancing. It was a real day off! Aside from a few loads of laundry and changing sheets, I didn't do any work to speak of!
