Inverted Pyramid - reprise

Interesting article in the SL Trib reporting on how China's 1 child rule, which helps in some ways, is beginning to backfire with the aging population and reduced workforce/tax payers. Because of the heavy-handed family tinkering, China is experiencing this sooner than the rest of the world, which faces similar crises in the future. Click the post title to read the article.

With just one child to care for the aging parents, there's lots of pressure - assuming the child doesn't die first. In Shanghai so many residents have reached retirement age that city officials are urging local companies to persuade their aging staffs to stay on the job longer. Today in China there are 5.4 working-age adults for every elderly person, according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies. That ratio will plummet to 2.5 by 2030 and to 1.6 by 2050.

Once again, short-term benefits have replaced long-term goals. How short-sighted it is to assume that forced limitation of childbearing will actually solve the world's problems.

Caution: This video will cause emotional distress! The horrors that have occurred in Communist China are merely touched on here but it is sickening. Terrible things happen throughout the world, but the idea that a government can force such pain is unthinkable to me. How can they, in good conscience, do this. It's mass murder in the name of a better plan. What does this sound like? Hitler believed he could create a "perfect race" with manipulation, abuse, killings and neglect to the point of torture.
